Quik-Zero Rings |
At
the numerous shows Conetrol attends annually (particularly those
put on by Safari Club International and other organizations
comprised of hunters with a passion to take on the world's
largest game animals), visitors to the Conetrol exhibit have time
and again expressed their desire for Conetrol mounting which
would enable them to easily remove a scope and replace it to
zero.
We got the message. Now available are our Quik-Zero Rings to do exactly this. The rings are horizontally split and have solid depending studs virtually the same size as the ring holes they fit into on Conetrol bases. Though affording negligible windage adjustment, the QZ rings make for about the simplest mechanism available for removing a scope and returning it accurately to zero.
Once QZ rings are installed, you can remove the scope for travel, gun repair or anything else at your indulgence. Always there is the serenity of knowing the scope can be replaced easily, accurately any time. You can sight in several scopes for different game and hunting conditions then choose and affix -- already zeroed -- the one best accommodating the particular circumstances at hand.
You detach the scope by loosening the cone screws the usual way (no need to remove them completely and risk their loss) until the scope can be lifted off the Conetrol base. When ready to replace the scope you simply push it down onto the base and tighten the right-hand cone screw under each ring until the ring stud is jammed against the opposite wall of the ring hole, which gets you back to zero. The opposing cone screws are tightened simply to confirm the connection. (You are free to select which cone screws to tighten first if you care to take advantage of any trace of windage adjustment available, but you'll then need to remember the order selected.)
The cone screws protrude slightly from the sides of Conetrol bases when QZ rings are installed, which allows them to be located readily by feel for quick hex-key access when a scope needs to be detached hurriedly. This feature is especially valuable in dim-light conditions -- a circumstance every big-game hunter has long since learned to come to terms with.
Although the Conetrol Quik-Zero setup is remarkably simple to operate, it does not allow the scope to be removed and replaced as quickly as lever-operated mounts. But users of Conetrol QZ mounting will appreciate something a lot more important -- the rock-solid Conetrol ring-to-base connection that is superior going away to any lever-type mount around. And the aggravating habit of lever mounts working loose as rifles are jerked out of rifle scabbards is never a concern for Quik-Zero; there are no levers. Further, since compensation for wear is built in, you can know always that no matter how many times your scope is removed and replaced the mechanism of the Conetrol mount will ever remain as tight as the day you bought it. And if all this is still not enough for you, have a look at the last paragraph at the bottom of this page; how does guaranteed torque-free mounting grab you?
>>>>> Does the term "Dual Dovetail" or "Double Dovetail" turn you on? If so, Conetrol QZ rings are your baby. They not only give you the simplicity and strength of the double-dovetail rings of other makers but enable the scope to be removed easily (without taking the scope out of the rings each time!) and replaced precisely to its zero setting, compensating for wear in the process. (This last feature is exclusive in that it is not incorporated in the double-dovetail rings of the other mount makers.) ...And the Conetrol QZ rings work on standard Conetrol bases.
About our Horizontally Split Rings
Conetrol first introduced its horizontally split rings in response to the need of many customers wanting to mount scopes with extraordinarily large ends -- scopes which Conetrol's highest regular projectionless rings simply will not mount. Stock numbers for the original Extra-High Rings (which webpage see) are HSL, HSM, and HSH for the Low, Medium and High respectively.
Stock numbers of the Quik-Zero rings are QZL for the low, QZM for the medium height and QZH for the high. .
Adjust-Quik-Detach (AQD) rings carry the stock numbers AQDL for low, AQDM for medium and AQDH for high. (AQD rings are unique in the sense that they can only be used with Conetrol's AQD bases. See Quick Detach webpage.)
The horizontally split rings are available in three heights -- 5/32", 9/32", and 13/32". (For one-inch scope tubes, a full 1/2" height is available if more height is needed.) Add thickness of Conetrol bases, which is usually 7/32", for total height of scope tube above gun.
The rings are priced at $49.98 each, $99.96 per pair for the 1" size, and $59.97 each, $119.94 per pair for the 30mm size -- whether of the regular design or Quik-Zero (QZ) design. Horizontally-split rings are generally finished with a gloss approaching that of our Gunnur and Custum rings, but matte blue or silver finsh is available for 50% more. Engraved rings are available for double regular cost.
Although the
horizontally split rings have top and bottom halves connected by
screws like other conventional rings, the screw lugs are nicely
rounded to optimize appearance. The Extra-High and the AQD rings,
of course, provide all the windage adjustment a shooter might need.
Not to be overlooked
is a predominant attribute of all Conetrol horizontal-split rings ---
absence of torque. This is a gift of turnable ring studs that is
provided by no other mount. For other mounts the question is not
whether they inflict torque; the question is how much. (All
webpages in the www.conetrol.com website are described on
the Menu Page.)
